FOXBORO, Mass. (Sept. 7, 2005) -- The NFL's most stable and successful franchise had a fairly tumultuous offseason. It only seems appropriate considering what the league has witnessed over the past few months.
While the NFL and its fans welcome the start of the regular season, maybe more than ever, the Patriots see if they can overcome a bevy of personnel changes as their quest to win a third consecutive Super Bowl begins against Randy Moss and the Oakland Raiders.
2004 STANDINGS: Raiders -- 4th place, AFC West. Patriots -- 1st place, AFC East.
2004 RAIDERS LEADERS: Offense -- Collins, 3,495 passing yards and 20 passing TDs; Amos Zereoue, 425 rushing yards; Tyrone Wheatley, 4 rushing TDs; Porter, 64 receptions, 998 receiving yards and 9 receiving TDs. Defense -- Tommy Kelly, 4 sacks; Phillip Buchanon, 3 INTs.

CB Charles Woodson, who signed a one-year tender for $10.5 million this offseason, starts at the other corner. ... Since reaching the Super Bowl in 2003, Oakland has gone 9-23 to post the team's worst two-year record since Al Davis arrived in 1963 to coach and eventually own the team. Patriots -- New England has gone unbeaten at home the past two seasons, and has won 17 consecutive games at Gillette Stadium since losing to the Jets on Dec. 22, 2002. ... RB Dillon had only 18 rushing attempts during the preseason, but gained 5.3 yards per carry. ...
